USAB has been actively involved in tertiary levels of quality assurance for further education programmes.
USAB does not design or deliver education and training programmes and is constrained by its operating procedures to restrict itself only to the provision of accreditation services for training and development courses and for certification bodies.
Typically, the accreditation activity will ensure that the totality of training provision is appropriate for the intended or target trainee and their employers where appropriate. This is achieved via the provision of quality assurance measures designed to ensure that the training requirement or input, matches the training and educational material, or output.
It is a requirement of the training accreditation process that course training plans are prepared defining key elements of the training provision. These are reviewed by USAB and verified at site.
Accreditation of training programmes provides an essential level of assurance for Trading Standards Organizations, Local Authorities, Chambers of Commerce, Insurance Companies and Higher Education Establishments. Independent accreditation by USAB and similar accreditation authorities is often an essential pre-requisite for the delivery of training under the auspices of the above and similar categories of organisation or association.

Terms For Product Certification Bodies
Requirements for bodies certifying products, processes and services are defined in ISO/IEC 17065. Certification of products, processes or services is a means of providing assurance that they comply with specified requirements in standards and other normative documents. Some product, process or service certification schemes may include initial testing or inspection and assessment of its suppliers' quality management systems, followed by surveillance that takes into account the quality management system and the testing or inspection of samples from the production and the open market. Other schemes rely on initial testing and surveillance testing, while still others comprise type testing only. Accredited organisations are advised that activities covered by European Directive 765/08 - Conformity Assessment are out with the scope of accreditation by USAB. In particular, note must be taken that whilst it may be the opinion of USAB that its accredited organizations are competent to conduct product certification, such as for CE mark purposes, authorisation for issuing CE marks is obtainable only from organisations notified by the European Union directly and that USAB are not so notified or authorised.

ISO 9001:2015 - Guide On The Need For Registrants To Acquire Training
It is not the remit of accreditation bodies to provide interpretation of standards. Accreditation body's function is to attest the conduct of certifying bodies. Organisations seeking guidance on how to interpret a standard should first contact the standards writing body and then perhaps collate a view from various sources within the quality assurance market place. These would include professional bodies, training providers and consultants. USAB however, has provided guidance to Certifying bodies on how they must prepare for the revised standard.
